Nag Tibba ('Serpent's Peak'), 3,022 meters (9,915 ft) is an ideal weekend trek suited for most people looking for a refresher from the boring routine. This trek can be done throughout the year. If you are not looking for the circular itinerary, 2 days are sufficient to complete this trek. Given its easy level of challenge, anyone with a normal fitness can do this trek. The trek offers some of the best camping locations. The route goes through thick deodar forest.
With only a day into the trek, one reaches to a very remote region with almost no habitation, a perfect camping site. A great refresher and trailer for new trekkers who are yet to see the full movie of a long trek. The Nag Tibba summit gives trekkers with panoramic views of majestic mountain peaks like Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, and Black Peak. For people who wish to do a weekend trek from Dehradun and would like to venture into the world of trekking in the Himalayas, the Nag Tibba Trek is ideal for beginners and experienced trekkers alike.
Reporting time at Dehradun bus stand is 07:00 AM . Trek’s starting point is Pantwari which is approximately 90Kms(3hrs Drive) from Dheradun. We will take a brief stop at Nainbagh for freshening up and Breakfast. After Nainbagh, Pantwari is just 45 mins drive. We will start trek for the day at around 11:00AM. Today’s trail is 5.5 kms and should take around 4 hrs from Pantwari to Nag Mandir. From Pantwari trail is mostly moderate climb till half way where there is a water point. We will take a short break for lunch here.
After lunch point there is a brief steep climb after which the trail enters into thick rhododendron forest. After walking for about an hour and half through this thick forest trail opens up into a small meadow which is our stop for the day. There is a small temple here named Nag Mandir. View from here is quite enchanting you get your first glimpse of snowcapped peaks of mighty Himalayas from here. We will camp here for the night .
Today’s the summit day and we will start our day early. After having light breakfast we will head towards Nag Tibba summit with packed snacks. Total distance from Nag Mandir to summit is approximately 1.5 Kms. Climb from here is a little steep but easily negotiable with or without snow. Approximately it will take 1.5-2hrs. We will have light snacks on reaching the top. From top you can have a 360Deg view of all the prominent Himalayan peaks.
Peaks visible from here are Banderpoonch, Black Peak, Swargarohini and many more. You can even spot Mussoorie from here on a good day. After having a brief halt here and enjoying the view we will head back to Nag Mandir. We will get our hot lunch on reaching Nag Mandir. After having lunch and resting for a while we will head back to Pantwari. From Nag Mandir to Pantwari should not take more than 2.5-3 Hrs. We will reach Pantwari by evening. We will board the vehicle waiting for us at Pantwari, we will reach Dheradun by late evening.
